I’m not sure what happened with this book about Hughes. It was hot (as books of criticism go) until 1991 and then interest in it died completely. It’s one of those situations that make me wonder if a poet was featured in a high school textbook for a time and then was no longer represented. I can make a strong case for having a book of Hughes’ poetry on the shelf of just about any American library, but not a book about him. And this book is rather dated. Let it go. Limited library funds are best spent on a collected or selected book of Hughes poetry. If people show interest in his poetry, then add a more current book of criticism.
