I Hear My Sisters Saying

This book contains a marvelous array of women poets of all stripes. I don’t believe I’ve ever before found the poems of Lyn Lifshin in an anthology and I’ve never seen so many poems by Lisel Mueller in an anthology before. But also included are the expected stars, such as Adrienne Rich, Denise Levertov, Anne Sexton, Louise Bogan, Diane Wakoski, Diane Di Prima and many more, both those who have persisted and those who never achieved poetic fame. The anthology is arranged in segments dedicated to various aspects of life and relationships such as childhood, motherhood, literary influences, and others less well defined. Though this book has had a good number of readers over the years, it was only checked out twice in the first decade of this century, so it’s experiencing a sharp decline in interest. It’s also experience some binding problems, being a paperback book. There’s another exceptional anthology of poetry by women on the shelves of this library, so I suggest culling this one when it either falls apart or goes ten years without being checked out.
