Well, it’s hard to argue with the circulation on this one. I have to admit, though I was charmed by the idea of this volume, which presents poetry about each state in the union by poets of the 1960s and 70s, it falls flat in execution. I’m at a loss to explain why because the book is full of highly respected poets, including Ted Kooser, Philip Levine, Simon J. Ortiz,  and I could go on. But it seems their poetry about place isn’t necessarily their best poetry. I would love to see someone give this project another try now that another thirty years of poetry is available. However, there is not need to keep this volume on the shelves considering how thoroughly it has been ignored.
