This is a wonderful, if limited, anthology that includes a 20 page introduction and a brief biographical note at the start of each poet’s section. The selection of work for each poet (Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Wallace Stevens, William Carlos Williams, Robert Frost, and Langston Hughes) is ample without being overwhelming, making this a great introduction to six important American poets, suitable as a gift to a teenager with an interest in poetry as well as for almost any American library. It was a wise purchase and the patron’s have given it attention. Because these are poets who have already stood the test of time, I recommend this volume be kept on the shelves until it has deteriorated beyond use.
